PostSubject: Dos Box how to config inside EO   Mon Jun 24, 2013 10:37 pm

Greeting
before we begin you need to have ide of what is EO and the concept behind it and how it work, just check the help file or our web site :
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
EO has special features to deal with dos box, conf file editor and attach file list, as you know dos box need conf files in order to specify some graphic, cpu, audio... all these configuration found in that conf file and dos box need these to run the game, one example could be Duke nukem 3d (my favorite title all the time) just copy the default conf file came with dos box and rename it as you like , give it name like:  dosbox.duke3d.conf now we need to edit this file so we can add extra command, you can do this using windows notepad or eo conf editor(used to edit dosbox conf file with nice gui and stored value)

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
# You can put your MOUNT lines here.
@echo off
mount C "D:\DOSGAMES\Duke3DDosBox\3DREALMS"
# imgmount D "KILLACD1\Killaton1.cue" -t iso
C:
cd duke3d
NOLFB.COM
duke3d.exe
exit

as I said before,eo came with nice dos box  conf file editor, simply add these conf file like picture below

include above command under [autoexec] section  (consult doc files came with dos box)
don't use eo command line editor just use the notepad or eo conf file editor like below picture:

this editor found in emu panel below rom list, it can store the value you enter, off or on value on our example, you see it's better than notepad, add another value like go and this editor will store this value for @echo
now we need to write command so conf file can be delivered to dos box
in dosbox doc you need this command:
-conf conf file path game path with exe extension
example in emulator property for dosbox emulator:

then select the game in the list (duke3d in my list) go to rom property >attached file now add conf file we already created (see above)

so each time you run duke 3d with eo, conf file will be sended(attached file) to dosbox contain your setting for this game!

Thank you for reading any question just submit here

PostSubject: Re: Dos Box how to config inside EO   Thu Aug 22, 2013 6:28 pm

Does this apply to GOG Games as well for example: Crusader No Regret

I normally just double click the Crusader No Regret shortcut on my desktop to load the game but if I wanted to launch it from EO, how would I do that. I tried loading the shortcut and running without an emulator and that didn't work so I guess I have to load it with DOSBox as the emulator?

I assume I would need info from the following files:

PostSubject: Re: Dos Box how to config inside EO   Fri Aug 23, 2013 11:13 am

this guide apply to any game that require dosbox to play(dos game)
before you try the below method, try to add game exe as rom and dos box as emulator and try to launch the game if it work, the below method is only for game that require orignal cd to be mounted so we add code to load iso image

based on the shortcut you gave above,I think you need dosbox conf file and the exe file of the game, your conf file is ok but need extra edit and we need to tell dosbox to load conf file of Crusader No Regret like you do in the shortcut

@echo off
mount C "path of the folder that contain the game exe"
example: mount C "D:\DOSGAMES\Duke3DDosBox\3DREALMS"

imgmount d "game.gog" -t iso -fs iso
if the game iso located in the same folder of the game exe above code is fine, else you need to point to where is the image file is located, and I suggest sub dir like:
imgmount D "KILLACD1\Killaton1.cue" -t iso

now that you prepare you conf file save it (backup you original just in case),now add conf file as attached file as above guide

and of course add game exe as rom and dos box as emulator

Note: did you try the last hotfix,if not pls try to add shortcut as rom and disable emulator\command line button and post result

It's still not working - probably because I'm doing something wrong. Config files / DOSBox set up is new to me.

This is where I keep the DOSBox Emulator because I'm going to (hopefully) add several DOSBox games:
D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Emulators\DOSBox

This is where the config and GAME.GOG file are located:
D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game

Here are the emu command lines I entered:

The path to the config file:

Added config file to the rom:

Updated the command lines in the config file:
Code:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C "D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game"
@echo off
imgmount d "game.gog" -t iso -fs iso
c:
cls
REGRET.EXE
exit
Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

No problem,I hope you enjoying using EO as dosbox game launcher,it has many special feature especially designed for dosbox (conf editor with saved values)
you need to  follow this steps:
create new console name it as you like(ex: Dos Games)
Add dosbox as emulator inside EO (dosbox.exe)
Add the game exe as rom (REGRET.exe)
Download this file Download
in emulator properties select :load from xml file" button,it's yellow folder icon next to floppy icon
now load the file you just download
you should see this now:

go to rom properties->attached file tab, browse and add your conf file(dosboxregret.conf)
go to rom properties->configuration files tab , browse and add your conf file(dosboxregret.conf)
your conf is ok
now try to launch the game
I Hope it work,if not try this:
create new console name it as you like(ex: Dos Games)
Add dosbox as emulator inside EO (dosbox.exe)
Add the game exe as rom (REGRET.exe)
launch the game from EO

I followed everything up until adding the XML File to the emulator properties. When I attempt to do that, I get the following error message:

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

based on the report above, I suggest you to update the dotnet framwork, and update MSXML(important)
try to save and load custom command line, add some random command (in emulator properities) save the changes(floppy button) then try to load it,if the error appear, you definitely need to update MSXML

Thank you, I've updated my .net framework to 4.5 and installed MSXML and am not longer receiving the error message instead DOSBox launches and then it goes to the below screen.

I sent you additional details via PM.

Great news, the game ask for the cd, try to edit this line inside conf file:

imgmount d "game.gog" -t iso -fs iso
c:
cls
REGRET.EXE
exit"

edit it to be like this:
@echo off
mount C "D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game"
imgmount D "game.gog" -t iso
C:

Thanks I updated the config file to match what you listed but got the same result i.e. Cannnot find the Crusader CD message

Quote :
go to rom properties->configuration files tab , browse and add your conf file(dosboxregret.conf)
Also, on the step listed above, I left clicked on the Crusader game in EO, then navigated to the Configuration Files tab but didn't see an option to add the config file.

Here is s print screen of what I see, there is a drop down menu which is already pointing to the config file but I didn't add the file in that tab. I went to rom properties->attached file tab, browsed to my conf file(dosboxregret.conf) and added it but didn't manually add anything to the Configuration Files tab. Would that be the issue?

imgmount D "game.gog" -t iso

sorry for mistake
go to emulator properties->configuration files tab , browse and add your conf file(dosboxregret.conf) this step only used to enable you t edit conf file inside eo

PostSubject: Re: Dos Box how to config inside EO   Sat Aug 31, 2013 6:40 am

Thank you for the help, I tested it using the following set up and it worked.

Game folder:
Code:
D:\Crusader No Regret [GOG]

DOSBox Emulator folder:
Code:
D:\Crusader No Regret [GOG]\DOSBOX
Config File:
Code:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
@echo off
mount C "D:\Crusader No Regret [GOG]"
imgmount d "D:\Crusader No Regret [GOG]\game.GOG" -t iso
C:
REGRET.EXE
exit

The above set up worked for testing but when I moved the game to my roms folder it stopped working and I keep getting the "CANNOT FIND THE CRUSADER: No Regret CD." message. Here is the below paths and set-ups I used when I moved the folder.

Game folder:
Code:
D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game
DOSBox Emulator folder:
Code:
D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Emulators\DOSBox
Config File:
Code:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
@echo off
mount C "D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game"
imgmount d "D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game\game.GOG" -t iso
C:
REGRET.EXE
exit
Any idea why it wouldn't work in that location?

did you add new conf file location "attaches files"inside rom properties?
you need to specify the new conf location there

Yes and I put the new config file in the "attaches files" section of the rom properties and in the "configuration files" section of the emulator's properties.

Eo send the attaches file without full path
.\dosgame\regret.exe
the real file path:
d:\emulator organizer\dosgame\regret.exe
we did that to enable portability , so EO still run rom\emulator even in usb flash
so any file inside eo dir will be shorten , we 're going to add option to toggle such path
you have two way to run the game:
1 you can put conf file outside eo dir
2 (recommended)you can send the path in eo commandline editor like:
-conf "path to conf file" and remove attaches file

PostSubject: Re: Dos Box how to config inside EO   Sun Sep 01, 2013 7:30 pm

I was trying to use the 2nd (recommended method) to make the game playable.

I updated the command line from -conf (-conf)  to  -conf ("D:\Emulator Organizer\Files\Systems\PC\Crusader No Regret\Game\dosboxREGRET.conf")

Then I tried to remove the config file from the rom properties / attached files tab, which didn't work, so I tried to remove the config file from the emulator properties / configuration files tab, which also didn't work. I keep getting a message about the config file being an illegal command.

ok,go to rom properties->attached files and select the conf (if it shown) and click blue remove button
now go to emulator properties and add the following command:
-conf "full path to conf file"

EDIT:
check the default group so the exe file will be sent along with conf file to dosbox emulator

hope this work

Thank you for all your help! That worked!

If I add another GOG or DOSBox games, how will EO know which config file to send since each game uses it's own config file?

Glad it work
I recommend you to move dos game folder that contain dosbox and dos games outside eo dir and use "attached files" method since it per rom for now, the next eo version will handle dosbox more easier and differently
